If Xaden Riorson had a drink, it would taste like this.
Dark. Sharp. A little dangerous. Just how your shadow daddy likes it.

This spicy black currant margarita brings the storm with a bite of jalapeño, a swirl of deep cassis, and a black salt rim that would make even the shadows take notice. Whether you’re deep into your Fourth Wing re-read, flipping the pages of Iron Flame or cursing the cliffhanger of Onyx Storm, this is the perfect cocktail to keep you company while you ride out the tension, plot twists, and dragons.
Xaden Riorson isn’t your typical fantasy book boyfriend. No wings, but shadows that cling to him. A stare that can cut sharper than any blade. And that line—“My house, my chair, my woman.”—enough said. If you love a dark, broody, tattooed shadow daddy who can call down a storm, this drink is for you.
Shadow Daddy Margarita Recipe
Ingredients:
- 2 oz tequila (or 1.5 oz tequila + 0.5 oz mezcal for smokiness)
- 0.5 oz Cointreau (or other orange liqueur)
- 0.5 oz crème de cassis (black currant liqueur)
- juice of 1 lime (about 1 oz)
- 2–3 slices jalapeño
- dash of activated charcoal (be careful as this can affect some medications; ask your doctor if you're unsure)
- Black salt for the rim
Instructions:
- Run a lime wedge around the rim of your glass, then dip it in black salt. Fill the glass with fresh ice.
- In a shaker, combine tequila (or tequila/mezcal), Cointreau, crème de cassis, lime juice, and jalapeño slices with ice.
- Shake until well chilled, letting the jalapeño infuse its heat.
- Strain into your prepared glass.
- Sip and imagine Xaden’s shadows swirling in the corner, waiting.
