Squirrel NC state mammal ornament

The Eastern Gray Squirrel is the official state mammal of North Carolina. It was chosen in 1969 after polling school children for their favorite animal. The squirrels, which live in every county in NC, was described as courageous and thrifty. Our early colonies actually depended on the gray squirrel for survival.
